Winter 2018 Newsletter

The year 2018 has proven to be a year of change - some not-so-good changes (especially on the National level) but for Faith Action, some terrific changes and growth! We have seen an increase in participation, engaging Listening Process trainings and Task Force work, new leadership and the addition of 5 new member units!

In this issue, you will see pictures that captured some of our most recent accomplishments and of the hard work that our members and leaders have been doing to get ready for an even more fruitful 2019!

As we enter the 2019 Legislative Session, please be ready to put on those blue Faith Action shirts (we are happy to provide you with one) and come down to our actions at the Capitol when we call! Our warm bodies are our strength - let us NEVER forget that.

Lastly, be sure to mark the 19th on your calendar for our Leadership Retreat with Ed Shurna and Peter Martinez and please RSVP as soon as possible!

May 2019 be a healthy and prosperous year for us all...

Your sister in justice,

Christy

A Wonderful Listening Process Training

Twenty members of Calvary by the Sea Lutheran and Wesley UMC listeners gathered on November 3rd for a Listening Process Training at Wesley UMC. They broke out into groups of two to conduct one-on-ones with each other (pictured above). The energy in the room was terrific and they all seemed to gain a lot out of the experience!

The other training for the remaining members as well as those from Central Union Church was held on November 7th at Central Union Church.

Organizer intern Whitney Kim and Jan Yuen from Harris UMC share about Faith Action at the Interfaith Thanksgiving Service at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin temple on November 20th.

Delegated Council Meeting on December 1st

Almost 100 members attended our last Delegated Council meeting of the year. It was a full meeting of fellowship, hearing about the issues, including a presentation by Roger Epstein, welcoming 2 new member units- COFA Community Action Network (COFACAN) and Young Progressives Demanding Action (YPDA), installing new Board and Steering Committee members, and celebrating our outgoing President, Kathy Jaycox. Mahalo nui for your leadership for the past 2 years!

The Faith Action Listening Team from Calvary by the Sea Lutheran are commissioned during their service on December 2nd.
